SURVIVAL SWIM CLASSES WEEK TWO

Toy break d\uring swim lessons with Ms. Trisha

We just finished week two in survival swim classes! If you read the last week’s blog post from week 1, you’ll know Londyn never went underwater before starting these swim lessons. Now this week Ms. Trisha almost had her swimming on her own!

P.S. If you want to read about week 1, it is on the blog under the mom life tab!

I’m going to sum this week’s up instead of breaking down by day! On Monday Ms. Trisha had Londyn doing everything she learned in week 1! She also started the swim float swim swim sequence with her this week!

If you aren’t aware, swim float swim is exactly what it sounds. They teach them to swim, flip over and float, catch their breath and relax, and then flip back over to swim again.

Little miss fishy didn’t want to kick her little legs and feet in the beginning of the week. I’m sure wherever you will have your little one in lessons the teachers will do the same, but the way Ms. Trisha teaches Londyn, and from what I’ve noticed in the other lessons going on around her with the other teachers, they all are the most encouraging, and biggest cheerleaders with the students, but straight to the point with what they should be doing! I appreciate that way of teaching with Londyn. I want her to enjoy her lessons but at the same time take them seriously!

The day after those lessons where she was being stingy with kicks, she went the rest of the week kicking those little feet more and more. Make sure to ask your child’s teacher too if there is a way you can practice anything they are learning at home or at a pool if you have the option. With kicking her feet, her teacher sent me a video of how to help practice at home.

By the end of the week, Londyn was starting to flip over to float on her own! She still has a ways to go but I can’t believe the progress she has made in just two weeks!

Make sure too you’re watching and listening to what the teacher is telling your kiddo too, IF you are able to stay and watch, if not ask for a quick recap from the teacher! I share with my husband what she needs to work on or what she did that day and we always recap with Londyn to try to keep it in her little mind! If she needed to work on kicks, we’ll remind her and make it fun. “You know what a mermaid does to swim? She kicks her fin” But we’ll repeat what she did or ask her questions about what she learned in swim that day to get her remembering her lessons throughout the week!

I think the other biggest recommendation is go somewhere that you are recommended by friends that have been through these lessons. I was recommended Safety First Pediaquatics by a few friends that either know the teachers or have had their own kiddos through the lessons there, and it made me feel comfortable before even our first lesson, just from hearing what others shared about them there.

I hope this weekly recaps help anyone thinking about putting their child in these lessons!

I’ll be back next week with a week three recap!!
