TEN THINGS I’VE LEARNED SINCE BECOMING A NEW MOM

TEN THINGS I’VE LEARNED SO FAR AS A NEW MAMA!

  1. Your life changes in a split second- Now everyone shared this with me, “your life will never be the same” “it will never just be about you anymore” so on and so forth. I believed them to an extent, only the moment that Londyn was born did I really feel exactly what they were talking about, on 11/2/2018 at 9:18 P.M. I knew my life would forever be changed, and for the better.
  2. Sleep is overrated- Ladies & gentlemen, before you even think about having a baby, make sure you get all the sleep you’ll ever need. Just when you think your baby is sleeping stretches they’ll throw you into what they call a ‘sleep regression’ and your life will be thrown right back into those newborn days, FOUR months later. I will say though, there’s no one happier to see you at 2, 3 and 4 am than your little baby. Even though you feel like an actual zombie, it’s hard to not smile or feel so happy in that moment when your baby is smiling up at you.
  3. ALWAYS PACK EXTRA EVERYTHING- Londyn’s first doctors appointment the day after we brought her home was a reality shock that we had no idea what we were doing (LOL) just kidding, we just didn’t know how to prepare or pack a diaper bag. Our babygirl was just teaching us a lesson though, or two. Always make sure you have extra clothes, more diapers and wipes than you think you’ll need, and extra blankets. Any guesses as to what happened?
  4. I’ve never been so happy to see a poop- This is true parent life right here. I thought I knew a lot about babies from having nephews, and babysitting while growing up, I didn’t know anything. Like babies only need to poop like once a week, but it’s better if they go everyday. And let me tell you, we’ve had times we’ve cheered like we were at a sports game or concert at the fact our baby had finally pooped. #parentlife
  5. If you didn’t have anxiety before you were a parent, you will have some level of it after having your baby- This is more of a serious note, but your every thought will be consumed by how this will benefit your baby, how is your baby feeling, what does your baby need, ect. I’ve also had to learn to let go of things out of my control, the house may not be able to get cleaned at the instant moment you want it to, and that’s ok. Soak up every moment with your new baby and your husband, or significant other. Those are times you’ll miss, even when they’re only 4 months old, and not a newborn anymore.
  6. You will make up a song for everything- ESPECIALLY when your baby starts smiling. I have a song for pooping, diaper changes, to get her to stop fussing, during bath time, you get the point. But somehow, they’re all to the same tune. My first thought with anything we’re doing is to sing her a song. She’s probably the only person on this earth that loves my singing voice. Probably just until she can really realize what’s going on.
  7. Your baby dresses better than you- If you know me, you know I love fashion. Well. Ever since being pregnant and now having my babygirl here, I LOVE BABY FASHION. I mean, who knew there were so many cute options for baby clothes out there. Stay tuned for a blog post on my favorite baby shops, boutiques and brands!
  8. A routine starts from day one- I have never been a huge stickler about routines. I had my everyday things I did but never to the point that I was strict about them. Now everything is on a time frame, getting ready, feeding Londyn, getting her ready for the day, nap times, bath times, bed times, play times, you get the picture. If something doesn’t happen the way it’s supposed to it is so easy to get frazzled or feel like you’re baby is going to be just as upset as you are by being thrown off, but if you don’t have structure with a small baby, it sets the tone for them as they grow, and keeps some type of sanity in your life.
  9. You learn to pick and choose battles wisely- I’ve had a day where I’ve had a full cart of stuff in target (probably stuff I didn’t even go in for) and had to make an escape route because some little lady was 2 seconds away from losing her marbles. Don’t try and overdue things when your baby is telling you they’re done. We’ve never left places like restaurants, stores and even our friends and families houses earlier because Londyn was done for the day, and that’s ok. Listen to your baby and you should be able to avoid huge meltdowns!
  10. YOU WILL NEVER FEEL A LOVE LIKE THIS- Everyone shared this with me while pregnant. This is so true. You start feeling an instant love and connection when you see a positive pregnancy test, it grows when you see your baby on the screen for the first time and hear their heartbeat, and when you feel the first kicks and flips, you will melt. But when you meet your baby for the first time, you forget what life was like before them. Being a mom and a wife is the greatest adventure I’ve ever been on, and the love I have for my family is like nothing else in this world.
